We will celebrate Lauren’s life on Saturday, June 14th, 2014.

LODGING: We have a block of 15 hotel rooms reserved at:

Homewood Suites by Hilton Ithaca

These rooms each have two queen beds – call the hotel at 607-266-0000 to make a reservation and mention the Comly/Cowen Block.  The rate is $189/night + tax  and is available Friday and Saturday night.  We may have another block of rooms available but can not guarantee it at this point.  Hotel room availability in Ithaca on the weekends can be tight so make your plans quickly.

EVENT: The event kicks off at Cornell’s Sage Chapel at 1:30 pm and will be followed by a procession up to Beebe Lake led by a New Orleans style Jazz Funeral band.  After celebrating Lauren on the north shore of Beebe Lake we invite people to walk with her around the lake – about a mile – and then either back to our house, about 3/4 mile or back to their cars and then drive to our house.  The Beebe Lake path was the jumping off point for Lauren’s nearly daily walk with our two dogs and she specifically asked that we remember her with this procession.  The path is good if it is dry but can be muddy when wet.  It will be a wet few days going into Saturday but the weather for Saturday is looking good.

We will continue the celebration with an open house at our home at 119 Oak Hill Road immediately following the procession and Beebe Lake walk.

The evening will culminate with an open Jazz/Music Jam beginning at 8 pm followed by a DJ Dance Party with Luke Fenchel at The Haunt – one of our local nightclubs located just outside downtown Ithaca at 702 Willow Ave on one of the tributaries to Cayuga Lake.

MAP: A map showing locations and the procession path can be found here.

PARKING: Several parking options are now marked on the map. Sage Chapel is at the center of the Cornell Campus just south of the main quadrangle.  Parking is always tough around main campus but better on weekends.  There is a major road closure that google and apple maps likely will not let you know about.  You cannot cross on East Avenue between Tower Road and University Avenue.  The best parking option for the day may be to park on the north side of campus around Beebe Lake, either in the pay lot in front of Noyes Lodge (may be free on weekend but not sure so check!) or the lot in front of Toboggan Lodge.  If those are full I think you can access the garage under the Human Ecology Building.  You would walk to Sage, participate in the procession, and then either walk to our house or back to your car.  Alternatively there is a fair amount of parking just off University Avenue before East Avenue behind Sibley Hall or on Central Avenue – beyond the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art.  There is also parking in a pay lot (which may be free on the weekends but check!) off Campus Road and behind Willard Straight (turn at the now playing sign for the Cornell Cinema, which is what google labels the Willard Straight).  These last two options are the closest to the actual chapel with the Willard Straight option the closest but quite a few steps or a hill to get up.

If you choose to drive to our house please pay attention to where you park.  Please only park on the west side of Oak Hill Place or park on the north side of Oak Hill Rd. Please do not  park in the cul de sac of Oak Hill Place.

If your hotel will drive you to campus and you are game to walk to the house we can figure out how to get you back to your hotel or to the Haunt.  Please carpool if possible if you are driving and consider parking on the north side of campus and walking to the days events.

HELP US PLAN: Please help our planning by indicating your intention to come.  If you could go to this google form link  and submit the names of each person in your group we would really appreciate it.  Thanks

GIFTS: Gifts in Lauren’s honor may be sent to a special fund established in her name at Challenge Workforce Solutions, 950 Danby Road, Suite 179, Ithaca, NY 14850.
